Angelica Faith L. Suarez
Aica was born and raised in Davao, the largest city in Philippines. She earned her degree in Chemistry at the University of the Philippines Visayas (magna cum laude) and she is a registered Chemist. She joined the Dalisay Lab in 2016 and currently taking her Master of Chemistry at the University of the Philippines in the Visayas. In 2016, she worked on the chemical profiling and characterization of pharmaceutical biomarkers of Philippine honeys funded by USAID STRIDE in partnership with Maridan Industries, Inc. Currently, she is working on pineapple metabolomics funded by DOST-CRADLE in partnership with Del Monte Philippines. Her research work were presented at the Philippine American Academy of Science and Engineering (PAASE) conference and Kyoto Innovation Summit in Japan. She spends her free time playing badminton and swimming, and sometimes playing piano or painting on pads and canvas. |
Chuckcris P. Tenebro Chuck finished his Bachelor of Science in Biology, major in Microbiology cum laude at the West Visayas State University. He is currently taking Master of Science in Biology at the University of the Philippines in the Visayas. He hails from Janiuay, a municipality in Central Iloilo. Chuck joined the Dalisay Lab in 2016 and has been working on a research project on marine sediments-derived actinobacteria funded by National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP). He has presented two research posters at the Philippine Soceity for Microbiology (PSM) national and regional conventions. His research poster presented at the PSM Visayas Regional Conference in Cebu City won 2nd Best Poster award. Chuck enjoys karaoke during his free time. |
Edna M. Sabido Edna is a native of San Miguel, a small town that is 17 kilometres away from Iloilo City. She finished her Bachelor of Science in Biology, major in Microbiology at West Visayas State University. She is currently taking up her Master of Science in Biology at University of the Philippines in the Visayas. She joined the Dalisay Lab in 2016 and has been working on bioactive actinobacteria from marine sediments funded by National Research Council of the Philippines and Department of Science and Technology. Her research work won the 1st Best Poster award during the Philippine Society for Microbiology Visayas Convention in Cebu City. Edna finds joy in watching Korean drama and TV shows when outside the lab. |
Kimberly Tampus Kim was born in Sagay City in Negros Occidental island. She earned her BS Biology (Microbiology Track) cum laude from West Visayas State University. She joined the Dalisay Laboratory in 2017 and is working on isolating actinobacteria from marine sediments collected from various islands in Philippine archipelago. She plans to enrol in MS Biology program this fall. Kim is fond of watching Korean TV series online during her free time. She hopes to visit Korea someday. |
Diana S. Amago Diana is an alumna of the University of San Agustin with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Biology. Prior to joining the Dalisay Lab in 2019, she was a former Technical Assistant in the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Aquaculture Department in Tigbauan, Iloilo. Currently, she is working on the production of the bioactive molecules from marine sediment-derived actinobacteria funded by the Department of Science and Technology-Tuklas Lunas Development Center Program. Diana is exceedingly fond of science as she is in arts, photography and sports. |
Sheeny Fane Leonida Sheeny is a native of Capiz and a returning alumna of University of San Agustin where she took her Nursing degree. She is a licensed nurse and pharmacist. She finished her BS in Pharmacy degree at Centro Escolar University as an awardee for meritorious academic performance by the Philippine Pharmacists Association (PPhA). In January 2019, she joined the Dalisay lab to work on the bioactive molecules from marine sediment-derived actinobacteria, a project funded by the Department of Science and Technology. She spends her free time listening to music and watching travel and investigative documentaries. |
Julyanna R. Bruna Julyanna was born and raised from the City of Smiles, Bacolod in Negros Occidental. She graduated at University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos last April 2018 earning her degree in Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. She is a Registered Medical Technologist. She joined the Dalisay Lab last January 2019 and is currently working under the project Marine Sediments - Derived Actinobacteria funded by the National Research Council of the Philippines. Her hobbies include reading and writing short essays and poems. She spends her free time watching anime, documentaries, and movies. |
Praise Joy Ladran PJ was born in Calinog, the last municipality in the central part of Iloilo Province. He finished his Bachelor of Science in Biology with Specialization in Microbiology at Central Philippine University. He joined the Dalisay Lab in 2019 and currently working on the production of bioactive molecules from marine sediment-derived actinobacteria. This project is funded by the Department of Science and Technology. PJ enjoys watching anime. |

Carmela Vicera
MS Microbiology University of Santo Tomas Carmi earned her bachelor’s degree in Microbiology at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila. After she graduated, she worked in a Veterinary Pharmaceutical Company for 2 years after which she decided to pursue a master's degree in Microbiology. She finished her master’s degree at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila last 2018 and became a member of the Dailsay Lab in the same year through the DOST-SEI Career Incentive Program. Together with a team of committed researchers, she is working on the biodiversity of marine sediment-derived actinobacteria funded by the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP). During her free time, she writes poems to add to her growing poetry collection and sometimes she sketches or paints and practices her piano. |
Jovito Ysulat, Jr.
MS Microbiology University of Santo Tomas Jovito was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. He finished his Master’s degree in Microbiology at the University of Santo Tomas under DOST ASTHRDP-SEI scholarship. He joined the Dalisay Lab in 2018 under Career Incentive Program (CIP) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-SEI). Currently, he worked on the marine sediment-derived actinobacteria as a rich and unexplored platform for discovery of drug leads for treating diseases relevant to our country, which is bacterial infections and cancer funded by NRCP. He spends his free time playing mobile games and watching movies, and sometimes listening to music. |
Sarah Ong
MS Chemistry De La Salle University Sarah is a registered chemist who graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at Polytechnic University of the Philippines and Master of Science in Chemistry at De La Salle University under DOST-SEI graduate scholarship program. Her master’s degree research earned her a publication at The Asian International Journal of Life Sciences in which she worked on synthesis of intermediates towards fluorinarion of pyrimidine-baed nucleosides. She also presented this study in various local conferences. Her work experiences were in the academe and industry. She worked as a part-time lecturer at De La Salle University Manila, and De La Salle Araneta University, Malabon. She is now under the DOST-SEI Career Incentive Program in which she was first assigned at DOST-ITDI as Senior Science Research Specialist. She was involved in a project on method validation on the analysis of total arsenic in rice. Currently, she is assigned at University of San Agustin Iloilo under the same program. She is working under the DOST-Tuklas Lunas project on bioactive molecules from marine sediment-derived actinobacteria. Outside the lab, she enjoys watercolor painting, reading literary fiction and playing online games. |
